Remote-Controlled Mowing Under and Around Solar Panels

A compact tracked mower is not automatically compatible with every solar array. The facility must approve routes, clearances and operating procedures.

The short answer

Remote-controlled mowing may fit rows, slopes or swales where a compact machine can maintain safe clearance and visibility. Before use, verify machine and attachment dimensions, panel and tracker positions, wiring, piles, boxes, turning room, danger-area separation, electrical procedures, soil condition and emergency access.

Safety note: Equipment ratings are maximum specifications, not a promise that every site at that grade or condition is suitable. The operator must follow the exact manual and evaluate terrain, moisture, obstacles, visibility and the consequences of losing control.

Verify geometry in every tracker position

Clearance can change as panels move. The O&M team defines approved operating positions and whether equipment may work beneath arrays.

Map low and fragile components

Wiring, connectors, grounding conductors, sensors, piles and boxes need visible protection and no-contact zones.

Plan turning and travel lanes

Tracked machines can shear turf during tight turns. Use designated turning areas and avoid repeated passes on soft ground.

Maintain operator visibility and separation

Panel rows can block sight lines. The operator must keep the machine and danger area visible and stop when people or vehicles enter.

Coordinate electrical and operational controls

Remote operation does not change shock, arc or facility hazards. Follow the owner’s work permits, shutdown and emergency procedures.

Define machine and hand-work zones

Some edges may still need other approved methods. ClearSlope can evaluate remote solar mowing without promising universal access.

Frequently asked questions

Can an RC mower fit under every panel?

No. Dimensions, tracker position, wiring and clearance vary.

Does remote operation eliminate panel-damage risk?

No. Routes, visibility and operator control remain essential.

Can tracks rut solar sites?

Yes, especially on saturated ground or during tight turns.

Does ClearSlope claim electrical work authorization?

No. The facility controls electrical safety and access requirements.
