Solar Vegetation Management

What to Include in a Solar Farm Mowing Contract

Clear specifications make proposals comparable and keep mowing separate from electrical, habitat-design and repair responsibilities.

The short answer

Include facility maps and authority, vegetation objectives by zone, equipment and tracker clearances, access and security, electrical and operational procedures, habitat or environmental commitments, drainage features, approved methods, cutting and trimming standards, debris handling, weather rules, schedule or growth triggers, documentation, change procedures, exclusions, qualifications and pricing format.

Safety note: Equipment ratings are maximum specifications, not a promise that every site at that grade or condition is suitable. The operator must follow the exact manual and evaluate terrain, moisture, obstacles, visibility and the consequences of losing control.

Define maps and treatment zones

Separate open rows, under-panel areas, fence lines, roads, equipment pads, swales, slopes, habitat areas and exclusions.

Specify vegetation outcomes

Use measurable height or growth thresholds, woody-stem rules and access standards rather than vague “maintain site” language.

Document facility controls

Include check-in, orientation, tracker position, electrical procedures, emergency contacts, work windows and public or contractor coordination.

Protect habitat and drainage commitments

List mowing windows, no-go areas, invasive targets, clipping rules and erosion-sensitive features from the approved site plan.

Set acceptance and reporting

Define photos, issue reporting, inspection, rejected work, hidden conditions, change orders and weather postponement.

Keep exclusions explicit

State whether hand trimming, herbicides, tree removal, debris hauling, erosion repair or electrical work are included. Start a ClearSlope scope discussion.

Frequently asked questions

Should the contract use acreage only?

No. Array zones, trimming, terrain and facility requirements need separate definition.

Can it specify growth triggers?

Yes. Triggers can supplement planned service windows.

Should panel-damage guarantees be required?

Use insurance, procedures and responsibility terms; no absolute zero-damage claim is made.

Does ClearSlope provide herbicide or electrical services?

No such services are claimed unless separately verified in writing.
